Black Press, owner of Sound Publishing, purchases significant stake in education marketplace Connect2Classes Inc.

Sept. 22, 2016, Victoria, BC – Black Press Community Media today announced its acquisition of a significant stake in Connect2Classes Inc., a Seattle-based startup company.

Connect2Classes (C2C) is a marketplace for local and online classes and is the premier source for exploring, comparing and registering for thousands of lifelong learning classes in the Puget Sound region.

“Education is essential to skill development and self-improvement and we are happy to utilize the strength of our community media outlets as a foundation for the growth of Connect2Classes,” says Rick O’Connor, President and Chief Executive Officer of Black Press Community Media. “Connect2Classes has established a strong site in the Seattle region and we expect to help accelerate the growth of the business and widen the reach to connect learners with a broad network of trusted class providers.”

A 2014 survey by Eventbrite of millennials (Americans aged 18 – 34) shows that more than 78 per cent would opt to spend their money on a meaningful experience or event, rather than on buying a specific item*. Connect2Classes is at the forefront of this trend as people seek out classes like Wine 101 and Food Tour – Pike Market Place to learn something new and enjoy a new experience while doing so.

With approximately 45 per cent of people pursuing some kind of formal continuing education each year, there are thousands of classes offered in the Seattle area. By bringing these classes together on one easy-to-use platform, Connect2Classes.com enables students of all ages to find and register in classes. With everything from cooking and dance lessons to courses in small business, filmmaking and beyond C2C has a course to fit every interest and learning need.

“Connect2Classes sought out Black Press Community Media as a strategic partner because we believe our businesses are perfectly aligned to promote lifelong learning in the Pacific Northwest and to successfully grow our platform,” says Connect2Classes CEO and Founder Dallas Jasper. “I am very pleased that Black Press shares our view about the incredible opportunity ahead for Connect2Classes and look forward to working with their team to expand our promotion of fabulous local educational opportunities.”

Abebooks Co-Founders Rick and Vivian Pura Join Connect2Classes™ As Advisors

VANCOUVER, BC — (PRLog October 29, 2015) Connect2Classes (C2C), lifelong learning marketplace is pleased to welcome Rick and Vivian Pura as Advisors. As co-founders of Victoria based Abebooks, Rick and Vivian created and built the largest single book-marketing entity in the world.

“Abebooks is a worldwide leader in selling rare and hard to find books, but most important to us, Rick and Vivian were pioneers in building a scalable, world class marketplace”, said Dallas Jasper, CEO of Connect2Classes. “We are very excited to have their guidance as we embark on the same journey in the educational space.”

“Abebooks was built to solve the challenges of a fragmented marketplace just as C2C is facing today,” said Rick, adding “We built it from the ground up, technically, logistically, organizationally to solve those problems, and we are thrilled to help C2C do just that in the learning marketplace today, essentially by doing it again, knowing what we know now. As people who love to take classes, we are excited to be working with an organization who is making it easier to see the variety of classes available in a local area along with the specifics such as price, schedule and even reviews.”

“Booksellers had limited means to make their unique inventories available to people looking for rare books; creating the perfect opportunity for us,” said Vivian Pura. “Abebooks connected the booksellers and buyers in a way that was beneficial to all. Connect2Classes is in a very similar place with providers being a diverse collection of schools, businesses, non-profits churches, rec centers and individuals. We see this as a huge opportunity for Connect2Classes and are very pleased to join the Connect2Classes advisory board.”

Front Desk Partners With Connect2Classes, Enabling Education Providers to Grow and Manage Enrollment

on October 14, 2015

SEATTLE, WA—(Marketwired – October 14, 2015) – Front Desk, the mobile–first client management system trusted by personal services businesses, today announced a strategic partnership with Connect2Classes™ (C2C), a marketplace for in–person and online courses. The partnership enables C2C class providers to leverage Front Desk’s software to seamlessly manage class scheduling, student registration, billing and more, delivering a streamlined experience for their customers and better overall efficiency.

Today, students looking for specialized courses and education sign up for instructional classes online or via their mobile devices more than ever before. With the combined functionality of Front Desk and C2C, class providers can capture more registration leads, digitally manage schedules, track attendance, automate registration and set up important class notifications for their students.

The partnership with Front Desk offers C2C customers the following benefits:

  • Ability to manage enrollment, instructors and scheduling easily, reducing hours of administrative work.
  • Freedom to focus more on high value activities such as marketing and student interaction.
  • Opportunity to work more efficiently through an easy–to–use mobile interface, freeing users from their desks and allowing them to manage class related activities from anywhere, at anytime.

“Many of our customers are small, independent business owners and educators who do not have the technical capabilities or resources to streamline organization and the management tasks that are pivotal to their success,” said Dallas Jasper, CEO of Connect2Classes. “A community may have a robust population of lifelong learners, but education providers struggle to meet the needs of all potential students due to administrative headaches. With this partnership, they can leverage the combined power of our platform with Front Desk’s software, enabling them to improve engagement with potential students, better market their offerings and drive growth.”

“The needs of small business owners — especially educators that are focused on teaching not technology — are often overlooked or misunderstood, leaving a huge gap in the accessibility of their services,” said Jon Zimmerman, CEO and Founder, Front Desk. “Connect2Classes aligns perfectly with our goal of helping them improve efficiency, reach their audience and ultimately conduct more business. Through this partnership, education providers in our own backyard have access to the best capabilities technology can offer to boost enrollment and ensure a positive experience for their students.”
