Let’s Make a Movie

Film and Video

Want to star in a movie, while learning how films are made? Here’s your chance! In this class, we’ll create and film a short movie, working together as a group. Everyone in the class who wants to, will be in the film. Important: If you are new to acting, take ACTING 101 before taking this course.

How it works:

  1. We’ll meet on the first day and talk a bit about how movies are made; do some improv and sight reading to get an idea of each student’s abilities as an actor; and find out how each of the students wants to participate (i.e., acting in the movie? Helping out behind the scenes?).
  2. The instructor will then go home and write a script designed to give every student who wants to be in the movie, a role in it.
  3. In the remaining meeting(s), we’ll film the movie, using a high def prosumer camcorder, pro tripod, and professional lighting and audio equipment.
  4. After filming is completed, the movie will be edited and have an original musical score created. Then, we’ll have a wrap party and screen the movie (Feel free to invite family and friends to the wrap party!) (The wrap party will be scheduled after filming is completed.)
  5. This class is taught by Seattle filmmaker Nils Osmar. Nils’s films have played in international film festivals. To visit the instructor’s IMDB (professional film credits) page, click here.

Who should take this class?

Two groups of students tend to sign up for this class:

  1. Actors hoping to learn more about film acting technique by actually being in a film, and get footage they can use in their reels.
  2. People wanting to learn more about filmmaking, because they’re interested in making their own movies.
